The Perfect Mountain Trip

Days are structured around movement and space: time on the road balanced with time on foot, allowing the terrain to unfold naturally. The journey reaches into Nongriat and surrounding valleys, where access is slower and more deliberate.

Day 1

Guwahati to Shillong

Arrival into Guwahati, where you are met and transferred without delay. The day begins with a brief introduction to the region, including a visit to Kamakhya Temple, offering an elevated view over the Brahmaputra. Time is then taken along the river, allowing for a calm and considered start after arrival.

By early afternoon, the journey continues into the Khasi Hills. The drive to Shillong is steady and unhurried, with a pause at Umiam Lake as the landscape shifts from plains to elevation. Arrival into Shillong by evening, with everything prepared in advance.

Day 2

Shillong to Cherrapunji (Sohra)

The day begins with a gradual departure from Shillong, moving deeper into the Khasi Hills. The route opens into wider landscapes, with stops at key viewpoints including Nohkalikai Falls, where the scale of the cliffs and valleys becomes fully apparent.

From here, the journey continues at a measured pace toward Cherrapunji (Sohra), with time to explore the surrounding plateau and quieter stretches along the way. Arrival into a locally hosted homestay by late afternoon, where the setting is simple, comfortable, and closely connected to the landscape.

Day 3

Nongriat Trek & Living Root Bridges

An early start leads to the trailhead, followed by a steady descent into the forest toward Nongriat Village. The route moves through dense vegetation and stone pathways, gradually opening into the valley where the living root bridges are found.

Time is spent at the Double Decker Living Root Bridge and along the river, with space to rest and explore the surrounding pools before the return ascent. The day is paced carefully, allowing the experience to remain immersive without feeling rushed.

Day 4

Caves & Hidden Valleys

The day moves away from the main viewpoints into quieter parts of the plateau, where the landscape becomes less visible but more intricate. A visit to Mawsmai Cave offers a structured introduction to the region’s limestone cave systems, with time to move through narrow passages and open chambers.

From here, the journey continues along lesser-used routes, with short walks into surrounding valleys and forested areas. The pace remains unhurried, allowing space to explore without pressure, guided by local knowledge and conditions on the day.

Day 5

Return via Dawki to Guwahati

The return journey begins with a drive toward Dawki (Umngot River), where the landscape opens into a clear river valley near the border. Time is spent by the water, offering a quieter, more open contrast to the hills and forests of the previous days.

From here, the route continues back toward Guwahati, descending gradually from the hills into the plains. The journey remains steady and well-paced, with arrival timed for onward departure or evening stay.
